Clinical InformationClinical
Epilepsia Partialis Continua
a variant of epilepsy characterized by continuous focal jerking of a body part over a period of hours, days, or even years without spreading to other body regions. contractions may be aggravated by movement and are reduced, but not abolished during sleep. electroencephalography demonstrates epileptiform (spike and wave) discharges over the hemisphere opposite to the affected limb in most instances. the repetitive movements may originate from the cerebral cortex or from subcortical structures (e.g., brain stem; basal ganglia). this condition is associated with russian spring and summer encephalitis (see encephalitis, tick borne); rasmussen syndrome (see encephalitis); multiple sclerosis; diabetes mellitus; brain neoplasms; and cerebrovascular disorders. Questions About G40.101Overview
Is G40.101 a billable code?
Yes. This is a billable ICD-10-CM code, specific enough to report localization-related (focal) (partial) symptomatic epilepsy and epileptic syndromes with simple partial seizures, not intractable, with status epilepticus on HIPAA-covered claims from October 1, 2025 through September 30, 2026.
What MS-DRG does G40.101 group to?
When localization-related (focal) (partial) symptomatic epilepsy and epileptic syndromes with simple partial seizures, not intractable, with status epilepticus is the principal diagnosis on an inpatient stay, it groups to MS-DRG 100, 101, with relative weights from 0.9026 to 1.9368 depending on complications. Higher weights mean higher Medicare reimbursement.
What is the ICD-9 equivalent of G40.101?
