About Chapter 10
Respiratory diseases in this chapter involve the upper or lower respiratory tract, including the lungs.
The first blocks separate sudden-onset upper respiratory infections, influenza and pneumonia, and other sudden-onset lower respiratory infections. Later blocks distinguish other upper respiratory diseases, long-lasting lower respiratory diseases, and lung diseases due to external agents.
The remaining blocks address diseases mainly affecting lung tissue, pus-forming or tissue-destroying conditions of the lower respiratory tract, and diseases of the lining around the lungs. Separate blocks cover respiratory conditions during or after procedures and other respiratory diseases.
