About Chapter 15
These codes describe pregnancy, childbirth and the period after childbirth. They include pregnancy with an abortive outcome, high-risk pregnancy supervision, maternal conditions and delivery.
The blocks separate blood pressure disorders, swelling and protein in the urine from other conditions related to pregnancy. They also distinguish care related to the fetus or amniotic cavity, possible delivery problems, labor and delivery complications, and delivery encounters. Later blocks cover complications after childbirth and other obstetric conditions.
