When do the FY 2027 codes take effect?
The FY 2027 code set applies to dates of service from October 1, 2026 to September 30, 2027. ICD-10-CM follows the federal fiscal year, so the update takes effect on October 1, not January 1.
Can I bill a new code before its effective date?
No. A new code is valid only for dates of service on or after October 1, 2026. Claims for earlier dates of service must use the code set that was in effect at the time.
