Questions About This Page

How do I use the Table of Drugs and Chemicals?

Find the substance, then pick the column that matches the documented intent: accidental, intentional self-harm, assault, undetermined, adverse effect, or underdosing. The code in that cell is the T-code stem; the code page adds the 7th character for the encounter.

Do poisoning codes need an external cause code?

No. The intent is built into the code itself, which is why the table has six columns instead of one.

What if a substance is not listed?

Use the closest specified entry or the classification entries such as drug NEC, and confirm against the code page. The Table of Drugs Lookup also searches synonyms.
