Clinical Information

  • Hemangioblastoma

a benign tumor of the nervous system that may occur sporadically or in association with von hippel-lindau disease. it accounts for approximately 2% of intracranial tumors, arising most frequently in the cerebellar hemispheres and vermis. histologically, the tumors are composed of multiple capillary and sinusoidal channels lined with endothelial cells and clusters of lipid-laden pseudoxanthoma cells. usually solitary, these tumors can be multiple and may also occur in the brain stem, spinal cord, retina, and supratentorial compartment. cerebellar hemangioblastomas usually present in the third decade with intracranial hypertension, and ataxia. (from devita et al., cancer: principles and practice of oncology, 5th ed, pp2071-2)
  • Hemangiopericytoma

a tumor composed of spindle cells with a rich vascular network, which apparently arises from pericytes, cells of smooth muscle origin that lie around small vessels. benign and malignant hemangiopericytomas exist, and the rarity of these lesions has led to considerable confusion in distinguishing between benign and malignant variants. (from dorland, 27th ed; devita jr et al., cancer: principles & practice of oncology, 3d ed, p1364)
  • Chondromatosis

multiple formation of chondromas. (dorland, 27th ed)
  • Chondromatosis, Synovial

rare, benign, chronic, progressive metaplasia in which cartilage is formed in the synovial membranes of joints, tendon sheaths, or bursae. some of the metaplastic foci can become detached producing loose bodies. when the loose bodies undergo secondary calcification, the condition is called synovial osteochondromatosis.
  • Hemangioendothelioma

a neoplasm derived from blood vessels, characterized by numerous prominent endothelial cells that occur singly, in aggregates, and as the lining of congeries of vascular tubes or channels. hemangioendotheliomas are relatively rare and are of intermediate malignancy (between benign hemangiomas and conventional angiosarcomas). they affect men and women about equally and rarely develop in childhood. (from stedman, 25th ed; holland et al., cancer medicine, 3d ed, p1866)
  • Hemangioendothelioma, Epithelioid

a tumor of medium-to-large veins, composed of plump-to-spindled endothelial cells that bulge into vascular spaces in a tombstone-like fashion. these tumors are thought to have "borderline" aggression, where one-third develop local recurrences, but only rarely metastasize. it is unclear whether the epithelioid hemangioendothelioma is truly neoplastic or an exuberant tissue reaction, nor is it clear if this is equivalent to kimura's disease (see angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia). (segen, dictionary of modern medicine, 1992)
  • Angiolymphoid Hyperplasia with Eosinophilia

solitary or multiple benign cutaneous nodules comprised of immature and mature vascular structures intermingled with endothelial cells and a varied infiltrate of eosinophils, histiocytes, lymphocytes, and mast cells.
  • Angiomyxoma

a benign soft tissue neoplasm characterized by the presence of neoplastic spindle and stellate cells, and vascular proliferation in a myxoid stroma.
  • Deep (Aggressive) Angiomyxoma|Aggressive Angiomyxoma|Aggressive angiomyxoma|Deep "Aggressive" Angiomyxoma|Deep Angiomyxoma

a locally infiltrating, non-metastasizing angiomyxoma arising from the pelviperineal region. it may recur following resection
  • Paratesticular Deep (Aggressive) Angiomyxoma|Paratesticular Deep "Aggressive" Angiomyxoma

a locally infiltrating, non-metastasizing angiomyxoma that arises from the paratesticular region.
  • Superficial Angiomyxoma

an angiomyxoma arising from the dermis or subcutaneous tissues. it may recur following resection.
  • Vaginal Deep (Aggressive) Angiomyxoma|Vaginal Aggressive Angiomyxoma|Vaginal Deep "Aggressive" Angiomyxoma|Vaginal Deep Angiomyxoma

a locally infiltrating, non-metastasizing vaginal angiomyxoma. it may recur following resection.
  • Vulvar Angiomyxoma

a deep or superficial angiomyxoma of the vulva. it may recur following resection.
  • Vulvar Deep (Aggressive) Angiomyxoma|Vulvar Aggressive Angiomyxoma|Vulvar Deep "Aggressive" Angiomyxoma|Vulvar Deep Angiomyxoma

a locally infiltrating, non-metastasizing vulvar angiomyxoma. it may recur following resection.
  • Vulvar Superficial Angiomyxoma

a vulvar angiomyxoma arising from the dermis or subcutaneous tissues. it may recur following resection.

New 2024 ICD-10-CM Code

D48.19 is new to ICD-10-CM code set for the FY 2024, effective October 1, 2023. The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) has published an update to the ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes which became effective October 1, 2023. This is a new and revised code for the FY 2024 (October 1, 2023 - September 30, 2024).

Index to Diseases and Injuries References

The following annotation back-references for this diagnosis code are found in the injuries and diseases index. The Index to Diseases and Injuries is an alphabetical listing of medical terms, with each term mapped to one or more ICD-10-CM code(s).

Replacement Code

D4819 replaces the following previously assigned ICD-10-CM code(s):

  • D48.1 - Neoplasm of uncertain behavior of connctv/soft tiss

Table of Neoplasms

The parent code D48.1 of the current diagnosis code is referenced in the table of neoplasms by anatomical site. For each site there are six possible code numbers according to whether the neoplasm in question is malignant, benign, in situ, of uncertain behavior, or of unspecified nature. The description of the neoplasm will often indicate which of the six columns is appropriate.

Where such descriptors are not present, the remainder of the Index should be consulted where guidance is given to the appropriate column for each morphological (histological) variety listed. However, the guidance in the Index can be overridden if one of the descriptors mentioned above is present.
