About the J30–J39 Code Range
These conditions affect the nose, sinuses, tonsils, adenoids, throat, vocal cords and larynx, or voice box. They include long-lasting inflammation, growths, abscesses and other disorders of the upper respiratory tract.
J30 separates vasomotor rhinitis from allergic rhinitis, with allergic codes distinguished by pollen, food or season. J31 distinguishes chronic conditions of the nose and parts of the throat. J32 groups chronic sinus inflammation by the affected sinuses. J33 distinguishes polyps of the nasal cavity from conditions involving the sinuses.
J34 groups other nose and sinus disorders by type, including cysts and a deviated nasal septum. J35 separates chronic tonsil and adenoid conditions, including enlargement of either or both. J36 identifies an abscess beside a tonsil.
