ICD-10-CM Code D49.1

Neoplasm of unspecified behavior of respiratory system

Version 2020 Billable Code Neoplasm Unspecified Behavior

Valid for Submission

D49.1 is a billable code used to specify a medical diagnosis of neoplasm of unspecified behavior of respiratory system. The code is valid for the year 2020 for the submission of HIPAA-covered transactions. The ICD-10-CM code D49.1 might also be used to specify conditions or terms like hilar mass, mass of petrous part of temporal bone, neoplasm of accessory sinus, neoplasm of bronchus, neoplasm of bronchus of left lower lobe, neoplasm of bronchus of left upper lobe, etc

The following anatomical sites found in the Table of Neoplasms apply to this code given the correct histological behavior: antrum (Highmore) (maxillary) ; antrum (Highmore) (maxillary) tympanicum ; aryepiglottic fold laryngeal aspect ; arytenoid (cartilage) ; auditory canal (external) (skin) internal ; auditory tube ; bronchiogenic, bronchogenic (lung) ; etc

Diagnostic Related Groups

The ICD-10 code D49.1 is grouped in the following groups for version MS-DRG V37.0 What are Diagnostic Related Groups?
The Diagnostic Related Groups (DRGs) are a patient classification scheme which provides a means of relating the type of patients a hospital treats. The DRGs divides all possible principal diagnoses into mutually exclusive principal diagnosis areas referred to as Major Diagnostic Categories (MDC).

Table of Neoplasms

The code D49.1 is included in the table of neoplasms by anatomical site. For each site there are six possible code numbers according to whether the neoplasm in question is malignant, benign, in situ, of uncertain behavior, or of unspecified nature. The description of the neoplasm will often indicate which of the six columns is appropriate.

Where such descriptors are not present, the remainder of the Index should be consulted where guidance is given to the appropriate column for each morphological (histological) variety listed. However, the guidance in the Index can be overridden if one of the descriptors mentioned above is present.

Information for Patients

Lung Diseases

When you breathe, your lungs take in oxygen from the air and deliver it to the bloodstream. The cells in your body need oxygen to work and grow. During a normal day, you breathe nearly 25,000 times. People with lung disease have difficulty breathing. Millions of people in the U.S. have lung disease. If all types of lung disease are lumped together, it is the number three killer in the United States.

The term lung disease refers to many disorders affecting the lungs, such as asthma, COPD, infections like influenza, pneumonia and tuberculosis, lung cancer, and many other breathing problems. Some lung diseases can lead to respiratory failure.
