About the O00–O08 Code Range
This block includes pregnancies implanted outside the uterine cavity, molar pregnancies, other abnormal pregnancy tissue, and pregnancies that end before term. It also includes complications after these events or an attempted termination. Ectopic pregnancy means implantation outside the cavity of the uterus. Spontaneous abortion means pregnancy ends before term without deliberate interference; it is also called miscarriage.
O00 separates ectopic pregnancies by implantation site. O01 separates types of hydatidiform mole, also called molar pregnancy. O02 groups other abnormal products of conception, including blighted ovum and missed abortion.
O03 distinguishes incomplete from complete or unspecified spontaneous abortion, then separates complications from cases without complication. O04 separates complications following induced termination by type. O07 covers failed attempted termination, with subdivisions for complications and no complication. O08 separates complications following ectopic or molar pregnancy by type.
