Malignant neoplasm of eye and adnexa (C69) ICD-10-CM

Type 1 Excludes
A type 1 excludes note is a pure excludes note. It means "NOT CODED HERE!" An Excludes1 note indicates that the code excluded should never be used at the same time as the code above the Excludes1 note. An Excludes1 is used when two conditions cannot occur together, such as a congenital form versus an acquired form of the same condition.

Clinical Terms in This Code Range
Definitions from the National Library of Medicine for conditions coded in the C69 range.
Malignant Choroid Neoplasm
A primary or metastatic malignant neoplasm that affects the choroid.
Malignant Ciliary Body Neoplasm
A malignant neoplasm that affects the ciliary body. Representative examples include melanoma and malignant medulloepithelioma.
Malignant Conjunctival Neoplasm
A primary or metastatic malignant neoplasm that affects the conjunctiva.
Malignant Corneal Neoplasm
A primary or metastatic malignant neoplasm that affects the cornea.
Malignant Eye Neoplasm
A primary or metastatic malignant neoplasm involving the structures of the eye (conjunctiva, cornea, uvea, retina) and the lacrimal system. Representative examples include melanoma, carcinoma, lymphoma, and retinoblastoma.
Malignant Lacrimal System Neoplasm
A primary or metastatic malignant neoplasm affecting the lacrimal gland or the lacrimal drainage system.
Malignant Orbital Neoplasm
A primary or metastatic malignant neoplasm that affects the orbital structures.
Malignant Retinal Neoplasm

Retinoblastoma
A malignant tumor arising from the nuclear layer of the retina that is the most common primary tumor of the eye in children. The tumor tends to occur in early childhood or infancy and may be present at birth. The majority are sporadic, but the condition may be transmitted as an autosomal dominant trait. Histologic features include dense cellularity, small round polygonal cells, and areas of calcification and necrosis. An abnormal pupil reflex (leukokoria); NYSTAGMUS, PATHOLOGIC; STRABISMUS; and visual loss represent common clinical characteristics of this condition. About the C69 Code Range
These cancers affect the eye or adjoining structures, including the tear gland and duct and the eye socket.
The subdivisions separate specific parts of the eye from the tear gland and duct (C69.5) and the eye socket (C69.6). Other groups identify overlapping sites (C69.8) or an unspecified site in the eye (C69.9). Each group then distinguishes right, left, or unspecified side.
