These injuries affect the chest, including its wall, bones, spine, nerves, blood vessels, heart, and organs inside the chest.
The categories separate injuries by type and affected structure. S20 covers surface injuries, while S21 covers open wounds, distinguished by location and whether they enter the chest cavity. S22 covers fractures of the ribs, breastbone, and chest-level spine. S23 covers dislocations and sprains. S24 separates spinal cord and nerve injuries, and S25 separates injuries by blood vessel. S26 covers heart injuries, while S27 covers injuries to other organs inside the chest. S28 covers crushing injuries and traumatic loss of part of the chest.
