Perpetrator of assault, maltreatment and neglect (Y07)
The ICD-10 code Y07 and its subcodes identify the perpetrator of assault, maltreatment, and neglect. These codes indicate who is responsible for abuse or neglect, specifying roles such as spouses, parents, family members, caregivers, and non-family individuals.
Used in medical records and billing, these codes help specify the relationship between the victim and the perpetrator of maltreatment or neglect. For example, Y07.01 denotes the husband as the perpetrator, often linked to terms like "Victim of abusive sexual relationship with husband," while Y07.49 covers other family members responsible for abuse, including psychological and sexual abuse, domestic violence, or child abuse. Non-family perpetrators, such as daycare providers or healthcare workers, have distinct codes like Y07.50 and Y07.52. This detailed classification aids healthcare providers and coders in documenting the exact nature of abuse situations, improving accuracy in cases involving neglect and maltreatment by various persons in the victim’s environment.
