About the Z40–Z53 Code Range
These encounters involve surgery, care of artificial openings and devices, aftercare, dialysis, donation, or procedures and treatments not carried out.
Z40 separates preventive surgery for cancer risk factors from other preventive surgery. Z41 covers procedures not intended to remedy a health condition, including cosmetic surgery. Z42 covers reconstructive surgery after a medical procedure or healed injury.
Z43 sorts care of artificial openings by the opening involved. Z44, Z45, and Z46 distinguish external prostheses, implanted devices, and other devices, then separate them by device type.
Z47 is orthopedic aftercare; Z48 separates other care after procedures by its purpose. Z49 distinguishes dialysis preparation from adequacy testing.
