About the XR Body System
These New Technology codes cover joints in the spine, sacroiliac joints, knees, ankles, and tarsal joints of the foot. The body-part character identifies the joint, distinguishes right from left where listed, and separates single from multiple spinal joints.
Fusion joins parts of a joint so it cannot move. Insertion places an appliance that monitors, aids, carries out, or prevents a body function without replacing a body part. Replacement places material in or on a joint to take the place of all or part of it.
