About the 0D Body System
These codes cover procedures on the esophagus, stomach, intestines, rectum and anus, as well as the omentum, mesentery and peritoneum. The body-part character distinguishes sites such as the upper, middle and lower esophagus and named parts of the colon.
Some procedures remove part or all of a body part, pull it out, destroy it, or take out or break up solid matter. Others drain fluid or gas, widen or close a passage, change its route, or cut a body part to separate it.
