Non-follicular lymphoma (C83)

The ICD-10 code section C83 covers various types of non-follicular lymphoma, a category of lymphomas distinct from follicular lymphomas. These codes specify different subtypes such as small cell B-cell lymphoma, mantle cell lymphoma, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, lymphoblastic lymphoma, Burkitt lymphoma, and other non-follicular lymphomas.

This ICD-10-CM section is used to accurately classify non-follicular lymphomas by their histologic subtype and anatomical site. For example, the code C83.00 corresponds to small cell B-cell lymphoma, also known by synonyms like diffuse non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (small cell) or marginal zone lymphoma, and can be specified further by site such as lymph nodes of the head (C83.01) or spleen (C83.07). Mantle cell lymphoma codes range from unspecified site (C83.10) to specific lymph node locations, while diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (C83.3) includes forms like primary central nervous system lymphoma (C83.390). The section also covers lymphoblastic lymphomas and Burkitt lymphoma variants, each with codes designating precise sites and remission states. This detailed classification supports healthcare professionals and coders needing the correct ICD-10 code for non-follicular lymphoma to document disease subtype and location effectively.

Instructional Notations

Type 1 Excludes

A type 1 excludes note is a pure excludes note. It means "NOT CODED HERE!" An Excludes1 note indicates that the code excluded should never be used at the same time as the code above the Excludes1 note. An Excludes1 is used when two conditions cannot occur together, such as a congenital form versus an acquired form of the same condition.

Clinical Terms

The following clinical terms provide additional context, helping users better understand the clinical background and common associations for each diagnosis listed in this section. Including related terms alongside ICD-10-CM codes supports coders, billers, and healthcare professionals in improving accuracy, enhancing documentation, and facilitating research or patient education.

Burkitt Lymphoma

A form of undifferentiated malignant LYMPHOMA usually found in central Africa, but also reported in other parts of the world. It is commonly manifested as a large osteolytic lesion in the jaw or as an abdominal mass. B-cell antigens are expressed on the immature cells that make up the tumor in virtually all cases of Burkitt lymphoma. The Epstein-Barr virus (HERPESVIRUS 4, HUMAN) has been isolated from Burkitt lymphoma cases in Africa and it is implicated as the causative agent in these cases; however, most non-African cases are EBV-negative.

Herpesvirus 4, Human

The type species of LYMPHOCRYPTOVIRUS, subfamily GAMMAHERPESVIRINAE, infecting B-cells in humans. It is thought to be the causative agent of INFECTIOUS MONONUCLEOSIS and is strongly associated with oral hairy leukoplakia (LEUKOPLAKIA, HAIRY;), BURKITT LYMPHOMA; and other malignancies.

Lymphoma, Extranodal NK-T-Cell

An extranodal neoplasm, usually possessing an NK-cell phenotype and associated with EPSTEIN-BARR VIRUS. These lymphomas exhibit a broad morphologic spectrum, frequent necrosis, angioinvasion, and most commonly present in the midfacial region, but also in other extranodal sites.

Lymphomatoid Granulomatosis

An angiocentric and angiodestructive lymphoproliferative disorder primarily involving the lungs. It is caused by an Epstein-Barr virus-induced transformation of the B-cells, in a T-cell rich environment. Clinically and pathologically it resembles EXTRANODAL NK-T-CELL LYMPHOMA.

Receptors, CXCR5

CXCR receptors isolated initially from BURKITT LYMPHOMA cells. CXCR5 receptors are expressed on mature, recirculating B-LYMPHOCYTES and are specific for CHEMOKINE CXCL13.
